Poor public response to TV license fee

GBCPublic response to the Television license fee is reported to be generally poor as many appear reluctant to pay.

Pastor Ebenezer Botwi, acting Director of Finance of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), said steps were being taken to ensure compliance.

He indicated that it would soon embark on a special exercise to enforce the law.

He was contributing to discussions at a half-year performance review meeting of the GBC in Kumasi, attended by regional managers and district heads from across the nation.

Pastor Botwi said they would combine public education and other strategies to encourage the people to readily walk to designated points to pay the fees.

He also spoke of the determination of the corporation to improve the content of its programmes to give viewers value for money.

Mr. Thomas Nsowah-Adjei, Brong-Ahafo Regional Manager, called for continued public education to help everybody to appreciate the need to pay the fee and suggested the active involvement of the chiefs and other opinion leaders, especially in the rural communities.

He rallied all the workers to unite in their effort to bring in more revenue.
