Government to establish two new psychiatric hospitals – Mahama
The National Democratic Government would from 2017 establish two new Psychiatric hospitals in the Ashanti and Northern Regions, President John Dramani Mahama has said.
He said the Accra Psychiatric Hospital would also be merged with the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital which would in turn be modernized into an ultra-modern facility.
President Mahama said this when he launched the highlights of the National Democratic Congress 2016 Manifesto in Accra.
The highlights which were under the four thematic areas of Putting People First, Building a strong Economy for job creation, expanding infrastructure for accelerated development and advancing transparent and accountable governance served as the prologue of the yet to be launched campaign manifesto in Sunyani on September 17.
President Mahama said with the establishment of two more mental hospitals, the congestion in the existing facilities would reduce.
He said apart from working hard to complete health facilities under construction throughout the country, the next NDC administration would establish a National Infectious Disease Centre and support the production of anti-Retroviral and anti-diabetes and hypertensive drugs.
The President said his administration would also scale-up educational programmes on health issues, improve and make National Health Insurance schemes more accessible and train more health personnel throughout the country.
President Mahama said government would among other incentives increase bilateral exchange programmes for health personnel to go outside the country and learn the best practices to be implemented in Ghana.
He said government would also construct more projects and accommodation facilities for the health personnel to make them comfortable in their locations.
On increasing health facilities, President Mahama said government would ensure that every Region had a fully equipped regional hospital with a number of polyclinics and district hospitals.
“We shall construct 20 new polyclinics in Ashanti, Eastern, Volta and the Upper East Regions and complete 15 others in the Greater Accra and Central Regions.
