Election Security Taskforce established in Kwahu West District
An Election Security Taskforce has been established in the Kwahu West District to ensure peaceful elections in December.
The taskforce chaired by Chief Superintendent James Safo Peprah, the Kwahu West Divisional Police Commander, draws its membership from security agencies and other institutions including the military, police, Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Fire and Immigration Services, the Electoral Commission, Information Services Department and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).
At the maiden meeting of the task force with political party representatives Chief Superintendent Peprah said the taskforce was established to coordinate all security activities related to the elections to ensure that peace and security of the country is maintained.
He said the police service has carried out a thorough assessment of the threats associated with electioneering and based on that certain directive have been put in place to guide its operations.
He said a Joint Operations Center (JOC), has been created to monitor all activities at polling centers to ensure that, the prevailing peace and security of the districts are maintained.
Mr Eugene Boateng, the District Electoral Officer, took stakeholders through the electoral laws and electoral offences.
He said the taskforce would be formed at all district levels.
