SADA would be renamed Northern Development Authority – NPP
Prince Imoro Andani, a former Northern Regional Minister, has said when given the mandate, the New Patriotic Party administration would change the name Savannah Accelerated Development Authority into Northern Development Authority.
He said they would also create similar structures in the middle belts of the country to help transform development in these areas.
Prince Andani said this at a forum which attracted various stakeholders including civil society organizations, women and youth groups, market women, Persons with Disabilities among others.
The forum gave the political parties the opportunity to announce their vision to transform the Northern Savannah Ecological Zones into place of opportunity for all, free from poverty and inequality.
He expressed regret that before the introduction of the new SADA Board, an amount of Gh¢200 million used as seed capital to establish SADA, was wasted on fruitless ventures.
He said the party’s intention to create one dam in each village and one district getting one factory and the establishment of the constituency fund would help create jobs for the citizenry particularly among the youth.
He said the party would focus on agricultural mechanization and grant fertilizer and seed subsidies to farmers, separate the Cocoa Board from the Share nut Development Board among others as part of the drive to improve on agric and agric related ventures.
He said the NPP Government would also endorse the election of District Chief Executives to make them more accountable to the people to help improve the decentralization concept.
Naba Segri Bewong, a Board Member of SADA, said the failure of the Government to budget for SADA was affecting its smooth operations saying there is the need for the release of the stated percentage of the Non Petroleum products for SADA.
Dr Charles Abugre said the master plan for SADA when fully explored could help transform the Northern Ecological Zones.
