We are aware of challenges with Special Voters – EC
The Electoral Commission (EC) says it is aware of challenges that some ‘Special Voters’ are facing and it is working to resolve them.
In a press release issued this afternoon, the EC said, “we are fully aware of the challenges some of them are facing at the various polling stations with the Special Voters List.”
According to the EC, the issue was discussed with the Presidential Candidates and their running mates this morning at a Presidential Dialogue organized by the Commission on the elections held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
Today was set aside for ‘Special Voters’; these are members of the security services, journalists and other workers who will be performing some duties on election day, December 7, 2016.
Most of them didn’t find their names on the registers at the polling stations they were designated to vote at when they presented themselves to cast the ballot.
The EC says it is working to resolve the matter.
“The Commission is working with the hierarchy of the security agencies to resolve the challenge as soon as possible.
“We urge the security personnel affected to remain calm. Appropriate arrangements will be made for them all to vote in this year’s elections,” it said.
