World title prospect Commey seeking another opportunity
Ghana’s Richard Commey, will on Saturday, December 2, take on Dennis Shafikov of Russia, in a 12- round International Boxing Federation (IBF) World title eliminator in Moscow, Russia.
Commey, (24-1-0, 22 KO’s), will seek to make amends after losing out narrowly to Robert Easter Jr, in his attempt to annex the IBF World title in September.
Speaking to the GNA Sports from Moscow, Russia, he said, “I’m ready for the fight. We were much aware of this fight long ago and I have been training hard at home for it”.
Commey, 29, said, “I believe I won the title against Easter Jr, but I am following the declaration of the IBF and facing Shafikov for the right to challenge Easter for the belt again.
“That’s what I am after, another shot at Easter.
“I have seen Shafikov fight, he’s very aggressive and I will need to use my boxing skills and be smart to win,” he added.
Shafikov, (37-2-1, 20 KO’s) is touted as one of the toughest boxers in the division.
Mr. Mickey Amoo-Bediako Snr, Chief Executive of Streetwise Management, managers of commey said in an interview that, “while we were very disappointed in the Easter fight, we are thankful that the IBF gave us this opportunity to fight in the eliminator. That’s all Richard wants, the chance to prove he’s a true world champion.”
“We are not bothered about going to Russia, a ring is a ring. Richard’s fought all over Europe and South Africa, he’ll be victorious on December 2,” he stated.
