Over 1.4 million people in Brong-Ahafo expected to vote

Vote_4Eligible voters in excess of 1.4 million are expected to cast their ballots in the 29 constituencies in the Brong-Ahafo Region come December 7.

Mr George Gyabaah, the Brong Ahafo Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), in an interview with the Ghana news Agency said with the time closing in, his outfit is gearing up for the crucial event.

“All the necessary materials including the presidential and parliamentary ballot papers have arrived in the Region and have already been distributed to the various constituencies”, he said.

Mr Gyabaah said to facilitate the voting process, polling centres that have high numbers of voters, have been split into two and this has led an increase in the number of polling stations from 2,802 to 2,963 in the Region.

Each polling station, he said, will be supervised by five well -trained polling officials.

“To ensure successful, free, fair and a peaceful election, the EC is collaborating with the security agencies and other stakeholders and I am appealing to the general public to exercise a lot of maturity and restraint on the Election Day”.

They should go to their respective polling centres and patiently wait for their turn to cast their ballots and leave the place calmly immediately afterwards, adding “this way, the voting process will be orderly and peaceful”.

The Regional EC boss said elections are times for the electorate to exercise their constitutional right by way of electing the rightful candidates to lead them.

He called on politicians to avoid the campaign of insults particularly as time for the elections edges closer, to avoid igniting violence.

Mr Gyabaah said the police and the military are on top and doing everything to help prevent or mitigate the eruption of violence in the 252 identified ‘hot spots’ in the Region to safeguard peace and security of the society.

He asked the media to be circumspect in their reportage and not to rush  publicise uncertified results to create tensions in the society.
