Three international institutions sign pact for peaceful elections
The representatives of three key international institutions are currently in the country to sign a pact that would help ensure a peaceful election.
Mr Marcel Alain de Souza, the President of the ECOWAS Commission; Dr Josephine Ojiambo, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth; and Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for West Africa and the Sahel, arrived in the country last week to sign the deal which will commit presidential candidates to work towards achieving a smooth electoral process.
A statement jointly signed by representatives from the ECOWAS, Commonwealth and the United Nations and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the objective of the deal was to get a firm commitment of the Presidential candidates to work for a peaceful and open electoral process.
“The ECOWAS, Commonwealth and the United Nations called on all the Presidential candidates to commit to participate in the December 7, 2016 election, and to take the responsibility to contribute towards a non-violent, transparent and credible elections, the statement said.
