Greater Accra has highest number of registered voters
Towards the December 7 general election, the Greater Accra Region is leading with 3,063,986 valid registered voters; whereas the region with lowest figure is the Upper West with 415,539 valid voters.
Mr Eric Fleming Kofi Dzakpasu, the Electoral Commission Head of Communications, said the Ashanti Region places second with 2,872,619; other regional distribution are Eastern 1,605,943; Western 1,582,491, Northern 1,427,917, Brong Ahafo 1,406,934, Central 1,405,976, Volta 1,282,306 and the Upper East 648,788.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday, Mr Dzakpasu said the Electoral Commission expects 15,712,499 valid voters to cast their votes on December 7 to elect a president and members of parliament.
He said the Commission was fully ready to conduct the December 7 general election; stating that everything was in place for the general election; such as voters register, ballot papers, biometric verification machine and ballot boxes.
On the special voting exercise Mr Dzakpasu said the Commission had designated 284 polling stations for the national exercise.
He said the Commission was expecting a total of 127,394 valid registered voters to part taking in the special voting; declaring that the Commission was fully ready to conduct the special voting exercise in 284 polling stations.
He said each of 275 constituencies in the country were entitled to at least one special voting centre; however, the Commission had to add nine more special voting centres due to the fact that some constituencies were having a very huge voter population, citing La Dadekotopon Constituency as an example.
He said those part taking in the special voting exercise were officers of the EC, the media professionals, and members of the security forces such as the police, the military and the Ghana Immigration Service, who would be monitoring the December 7general election.
He said those who were part taking in the special voting exercise would be voting in their respective constituencies where they registered.
He said the special voting centres list with their code numbers would be on display on the Commission website for the public.
He also noted that the Commission was set for the December 7 general election; adding that to ensure a successful poll, all stakeholders must play by the rules.
The presidential candidates for the December 7 polls include incumbent President John Dramani Mahama, National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, Convention People’s Party (CPP) and former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, National Democratic Party (NDP).
The rest are Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Edward N. Mahama, People’s National Convention (PNC) and Mr Jacob Osei Yeboah, an independent presidential candidate.
