Ghana schools close for election
Pupils in public and private basic schools in Ho, have been asked to stay at home on Election Day, Wednesday 7 December.
The decision by the school heads is to allow teachers the opportunity to travel to their polling stations and vote in the general election.
It is also to ensure the safety of pupils whose schools would be used as polling stations.
Notices of “no school tomorrow-Voting” were placed at the entrance of some schools on Tuesday morning.
Mr Bright Deh, Volta Regional Head of Planning, Ghana Education Service , told the Ghana News Agency that though the day was not a holiday, teachers who registered outside the constituency were allowed to go to exercise their franchise.
Meanwhile, checks at the Electoral Commission and the Regional Police Headquarters indicate that all was set for the general election in the Region.
The Region has 26 constituencies, 2506 polling stations, 116 parliamentary candidates and 1,282,306 registered voters.
