No matter the outcome, we will make Ghana proud – Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama says no matter who wins the elections, he will make Ghana proud. The president said in a tweet early Friday morning, more than 24 hours after what has been described as Ghana’s historic election for various reasons, one of which is that if he loses, he would be the first in the country’s multi-party tradition to serve only one-term since 1992.
“Let’s allow EC to carry out its constitutional mandate. We’ll make Ghana proud no matter outcome,” he said.
The Electoral Commission (EC) hasn’t declared the final results yet, but provisional results published so far from collation centres around the country give an indication that the opposition presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo is the likely winner with a landslide.
The election conducted on December 7, was largely smooth and peaceful. However, the EC says because its electronic results transmission system was compromised, it has been unable to release the results as fast as it expected. It called on Ghanaians to remain calm and be patient and assured everyone that the results can’t be manipulated.
Meanwhile, Ghanaians have been generally calm, but anxious to know the final verdict.
Nana Akufo-Addo had also urged citizens and his supporters to remain calm and wait for the final results by the EC.
