Ursula Owusu-Ekuful retains seat in Ablekuma West

Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful, the incumbent NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Ablekuma West constituency has retained her seat.

Mrs Owusu Ekuful won by 34,376 votes to beat the National Democratic Congress’s Parliamentary aspirant who polled 20,976 votes as well as the Progressive People’s Party aspirant who managed by 470 votes.

Meanwhile, the Independent Candidate, who also contested the seat landed on 4,484 votes while the candidate of the People’s National Convention swept home only 46 out of the total votes cast.

However, the results show a decline in votes for Mrs Ekuful who polled 36,975 votes in the 2012 elections.

For the provisional results for the presidential race, the Convention People’s Party (CPP) polled 49 votes representing 0.08 per cent, National Democratic Party (NDP) had 27 votes representing 0.04 per cent.

The National Democratic Congress won 22,528 of the total votes, representing 37.09 per cent while the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) got 404 votes representing 0.67 per cent.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) took home 37,346 votes representing 61.48 per cent, while the People’s National Convention (PNC) managed nine votes representing 0.01 per cent of the total votes cast allowing the Independent to gain 17 votes representing, 0.03 per cent.

The total number of valid votes for the presidential is 60,380, rejected ballots 363, total number of registered voters 88,808, percentage turnout 68.81 per cent and total number of polling stations captured was 131.

Mrs Ekuful in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, expressed gratitude to the electorate for reposing their faith in her.

She pledged to continue with the good works and expressed the hope that if presidential candidate Nana Akufo Addo should win the presidential race, they would have enough resources to better improve the lives of the people.
