NPP makes history by winning Jomoro seat

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) made history in the Jomoro Constituency, when its Parliamentary Candidate, Mr Paul Essien, defeated six other contestants to occupy the seat for the first time. 

The   Busia- Danquah Tradition has never won the seat since the return to constitutional rule in 1962. 

Mr Essien, 41, a Teacher, polled 18,694 votes out of the total 48,440 to emerge winner of the Parliamentary election. 

The seat was occupied by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) till 2008 when it lost it to Madam Samia Yaba Nkrumah, daughter of Ghana’s First President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. 

The NDC however recaptured the seat from Madam Samia in the 2012 elections. 

The Member of Parliament elect, Mr Essien, a past Assemblyman for Tikobo Number One, through his initiative mobilised funds from traders to build a- 73 – store facility behind the Thursday’s weekly market. 

The edifice includes a modern conference hall and restaurant and was inaugurated by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in November during the electioneering.

Mr Emmanuel Erzoah the NPP Zonal Supervisor, told the GNA in an interview that Nana Addo’s remarkable  campaign promise of “One District One Factory” and “One District One Million Dollar annually”, inspired mostly the youth of the area to vote massively for the Party leading to the resounding victory in the constituency. 

In a related development Half Assini went agog following the declaration of Nana Akufo-Addo as President Elect.

Just after the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission announced Nana Addo as the president the elect, members and supporters of the NPP in the town began to blow vuvuzelas on the streets and danced to brass band music.
