Season of Twitter storms – Movenpick Hotel says account was hacked after Tweet about President Mahama

It looks like this Christmas season is one of Twitter storms, as the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel has been caught in a Twitter storm, following a Tweet on the hotel’s handle that poked a joke at President John Mahama, reminding him that he has only 12 days to go.

The Tweet read, “12 days more for JM, he thinks we are chopping Christmas so we will forget…Hahahahaha – feeling silly.”

The Tweet was posted on the 5-Star hotel’s handle at 5:08pm pm on Boxing Day, December 26, 2016.

Some Ghanaians didn’t take kindly to the Tweet it appears, and in response the hotel deleted the Tweet.

On Tuesday December 27, 2016, another Tweet was posted saying, “We have removed the offending tweet and the matter is under investigation.” This was followed by another Tweet which claimed the hotel’s Twitter account was hacked.

“Overnight our account was hacked and we thank our followers for bringing this to our attention,” it said.

Some Ghanaians on Twitter have descended on the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin for posting a Tweet that they found distasteful for a diplomat.

In the said Tweet about the Harmattan, the High Commissioner made an inference to inauguration of the weather, which some Ghanaians interpreted to mean a subtle reference to defeated incumbent President John Mahama.
