Teachers told to plan well for their retirement
Teachers have been asked to make the right investment decisions to help them live in some comfort after retiring from active service.
Mr. Charles Achamfour Adum-Nti, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), said they needed to adequately plan for their retirement and that, there should be no time to waste.
He encouraged them not only to contribute to the “Teachers’ Fund” but to put money into other viable investment products.
He was addressing a conference held to elect new officers to run affairs of the Juaso local of the association in the Asante-Akim South District.
Mr. Adum-Nti said GNAT would continue to put the welfare of both serving and retired teachers at the heart of its operation and fight for their interest.
He counseled teachers to work hard and show passion for the job, to raise the quality of education.
They should avoid doing anything unethical, likely to dent the image of the teaching profession.
He encouraged them to periodically upgrade themselves – become abreast of modern teaching methods for effective classroom performance.
Mr. William Effah, the District GNAT Secretary, called for teachers to channel their grievances through the district office of the association.
Mr. Felix Bruce Emi, was elected the new chairman with Mr. Ebenezer Amoah, as his vice.
Other elected officers were Mr. Amo Mensah, Secretary, Mr. Ofosu Agyei, Deputy Secretary, Mr. Ishmael Arkoh Mantey, Treasurer, and Mr. Joseph Amoah, Organizer.
