GOC’s elective congress in limbo

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Elective Congress, billed for Wednesday, March 15 is uncertain to take place, as scheduled due to concerns raised by Mr Sahnoon Mohammed, the President of the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF).

Some members of the Committee have raised concerns on the inclusion of delegates on the voting list and in view of that petitioned the Disciplinary/Grievances and Dispute Resolution sub-committee of the GOC to address the issues before the Elective Congress.

In a petition signed by the President of the GCF, Mr Mohammed argued that the Ghana Olympians is not a known member of the GOC and cannot participate in the Elective Congress.

He further stated that, the Athletes Commission is not affiliated to the GOC as a member and Congress has not approved its membership to the Committee.

Mr Sahnoon therefore asked the committee to restrain representatives from the two bodies from participating in the congress or furnish the GOC Board with minutes of congress that approved their status.

“Our Complaint basically is that these are strange Members not known to Congress and do not qualify as candidates and voting delegates and ought to be expunged from the list”.

He also argued that, a delegate for the Handball Association of Ghana (HAG), Mr Ibrahim Issah was unqualified as a voting delegate for the Association.This was because the HAG has written to the elections commission to withdraw his name but that was not heeded to.

“A declaration that the 6th Respondent is not qualified as a voting delegate for Handball Association of Ghana and cannot vote in the said congress on the basis of letter and Resolution dated 7th March 2017 and 10th March, 2017 respectively submitted to the Ghana Olympic Committee by the said Association”.

The Cycling President pointed out that a non-citizen and or a person who holds a dual citizenship status cannot hold any office on the board of the GOC.
