Nunoo-Mensah wins GOC President
Mr. Ben Nunoo-Mensah, President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF), toppled Professor Francis Dodoo, to become the president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC).
In a keenly contested election, Mr. Nunoo-Mensah polled 33 votes, with Prof. Dodoo bagging 28 votes, to end his five year reign as the GOC President.
Mr. Nunoo-Mensah, who rode on a message of renaissance to win the elections, promised to build a new GOC and help develop sports in the country.
Mr Paul Atchoe, President of the Ghana Volleyball Association (GVA) defeated Mrs. Deborah Cubagee by 32 to 29 votes to win the position of First Vice President, with Michael Nunoo of the Ghana Olympians, brushing aside Emmanuel Tetteh of the Ghana Judo Association with 32 votes as against 29.
Mr. Evans Yeboah, of Badminton Association of Ghana (BAG) polled 44 votes as against 17, by Mr. George Lamptey to win the position of the Third Vice President.
Incumbent Secretary- General, Mr. Richard Akpokavie, retained his position with 36 votes, with Mr. Mohamed Sahnoon polling 26 votes, whilst Richmond Quarcoo had 31 votes to defeat Joseph Mingle who had 30 votes, to win the Deputy General Secretary position.
Mr Frederick Otu Lartey, polled 32 votes as against 29, by Christopher Essilfie to win the position of Treasurer, with Theophilus Edzie Wilson, winning the Assistant Treasurer position over Kenneth Arthur, who had 26 votes whilst Bernard Quartey polled four.
Isaac Duah, Herbert Mensah, Albert Frimpong, Mawuko Afadzinu and Miss Linear Addy picked up the five slots reserved for the Olympic Sports, whilst Emmanuel Nikoi polled 27 votes to defeat William Ampofo, 25, for the sole slot, meant for Non Olympic Sport.
Messrs Melvin Brown, George Owusu Ansah and Jerry Amert Shaib, won the three slots reserved for the three other representatives.
