BOST dispels speculation about fuel shortage
The Unionized Workers of Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) on Fridayassured the nation that “its storage tanks across the country are filled to capacity and no course for fear of fuel shortage”.
The Unionized workers through the General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU) in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday denied media speculation of imminent fuel shortage.
The statement jointly signed by Mr Newton Godfred Amoh, and Mr Sebiyam S. Mampaya, BOST Local Union Secretary and Chairman respectively condemned the speculation, which has the potential of creating “fear and panic”.
The statement noted that fuel security continue to improve with consistent fuel supply and urged the media to cross-check any information on the operations of BOST before rushing to publish.
The Unionized Staffs also disassociates itself from “malicious and dubious publication in the media which purported to blame the current Managing Director, Mr Alfred Obeng of misuse of GH¢1,000,000.00 towards the Ghana@60 celebrations”.
The statement said BOST during the administration of the immediate past Managing Director, Mr Kwame Awuah Darko, sponsored institutions including the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), the 2016 Ghana Olympic Team, the National Disaster Management Authority and even constructed a car park for Ghana Prison Service at the Bostal Institute.
According to the BOST Unionized Staff, “BOST has supported strategic institutions as part of our corporate social responsibility and will continue to do so in the supreme interest of Ghana.
“Therefore the publications which seek to align the local union to the unsubstantiated mantra hoping to create tension between staff and management is unfortunate.
“We the staffs want to state emphatically clear that we know better than these false propagandist. We the staff are resolute and will continue to rally our unflinching support to this new administration under the leadership of Mr Obeng.
“We are confident and determined to work in the interest of Ghana and expand BOST’s operation to the benefit of the shareholders, the workers and Ghanaians in general”.
The Unionized Workers also explained that: “there is no delay in the payment of staff salaries as was highlighted by a section of the media in the recurrent false publication”.
The BOST Union also noted that the new management headed by Mr Obeng is currently engaging staffs and management team on new business models to ensure total reshape of BOST operations and to overturn the legacy losses inherited.
“We the local union will continue to render our fullest support to any Managing Director who seeks the progress of BOST as well as the welfare of our members and will not condone any attempt by any group or persons to ride on our back for their personal gains,” the statement stated.
“Ghana and workers will be the losers at the end of the propagandist media attack on BOST hence workers joining forces to defend the national strategic assets,” the statement said.
The BOST Unionized Staff therefore appealed to media practitioners to uphold the tenets of the profession – objectivity and cross check documents before publication.
