Ghana Police increases security at courts 

The Ghana Police Service on Monday increased security in almost all law courts in the Greater Accra Region.  

The measure followed recent incident in which the Delta Force, an alleged vigilante Group invaded a Kumasi-based circuit court and allowed 13 of its members on trial to flee.

Observations made by the GNA on Monday at the Supreme and High Courts indicates heavy presence of armed policemen at the entrance and around the courts premises.   

The Council in a statement said the invasion of the court by the Delta Force must be investigated with dispatch and the perpetrators dealt with decisively in accordance with the law.

A Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Mary Senkyere last Thursday was invaded by the group after the court had remanded into custody 13 of its members.

The 13 who fled were remanded on the charges of conspiracy to commit crime, assault on a public officer, committing unlawful damage and preventing public officer from performing his public duty.  

According to the Council, some court staff were manhandled and property belonging to the state damaged.
