Minister bemoans state of Accra Sports Stadium
Mr.Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Minister of Youth and Sports (MoYS) has express worry over the deplorable state of the Accra Sports Sports after a working tour on Tuesday.
The national stadium, which has seen no major rehabilitation over a period and out of power for close to one year with most of the facilities in poor state, necessitated the tour by the MOYS minister to assess the situation.
In a press briefing after the tour, Mr. Asiamah, said all was not lost for the stadium to see rehabilitation and a phase lift befitting of a national stadium.
“MoYS is undertaking a tour to inspect the facilities for both youth and sports. We are here at the Accra Sports Stadium, to see how best we could maintain them.
“Nine years of neglect has seen this once very beautiful stadium in this poor condition, you all saw what has happened to the stadium, it is total neglect.
“We have seen so much deterioration and the bad condition of the stadium. I am not here to lament over the problems, but to solve it” he added.
According to Mr. Asiamah, the government is very committed to solving problems, which are related to youth involvement and employment.
“Our job is to fix broken down facilities…we have over 45 sporting disciplines, and if we are able to get sporting facilities in good conditions for the disciplines, the youth will be very active and drive this nation forward”.
Mr. Asiamah, who was the former chairman for Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture, toured the stadium with his deputy designate Mr. Pius Enam Hadzide and Mr. Joe Kpengeh, Director General, National Sports Authority.
