Unemployed man jailed seven years for stealing

Nestor Adzraku, unemployed, has been sentenced by a Ho Circuit Court to seven years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing.

The court presided over by Madam Priscilla Dikro found Adzraku guilty of unlawful entry and stealing, but acquitted and discharged his alleged accomplice Fred Anani, a mason.

Per the court, Adzraku will serve the sentences of two and seven years concurrently.

According to the facts of the case, the complainant, one Victor Tettey Axorvi is a resident of Sokode Gbogame and a senior Technologist at Ho Municipal Hospital whiles Adzraku and Anani are friends.

The court heard that on 12 June 2016 at about 1015 hours, the complainant, Axorvi, went to town to buy eggs and upon his return saw his door forced opened with Adzraku in his room packing his personal belongings.

The court was told that Axorvi questioned Adzraku who became furious and attempted to hit complainant with an iron rod he picked from the ground.

Axorvi therefore rushed out of the room to shout for help and later returned to find his television decoder, Dell laptop, Nokia mobile phone and a tools bag with its contents taken away, leaving his amplifier which had been abandoned on the floor, wrapped in a cement bag.

Axorvi reported the incident to the police who arrested Anani in possession of some of the items whiles Adzraku, sensing danger, went into hiding.

The court heard that Anani in his caution statement denied the offense and said Adzraku left the items in his house after he told him he had no money to buy the items he was offering for sale.

Adzraku was later arrested at Dzolo Gbogame on September, 26, 2016 and admitted to the offence and stated that, it was Anani who brought the idea to commit the crime.

Both were arraigned before the court and charged, but Madam Dikro, said the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Anani was guilty of the offences.
