GJA Executive Candidate backs call for Interim Management 

Mr Francis Kokutse, a Vice Presidential candidate in the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Election, has backed the call by some members for an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to replace the incumbent executives until elections are held.   

The members, who call themselves, ‘Concerned GJA members’ on April 7, petitioned the Elections Adjudication Committee of the Association to cause the executive members to step aside in accordance with the GJA’s constitution.

In a letter addressed to the Mr Roland Affail-Monney, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, on Friday, Mr Kokutse said: “Failure to put in place the IMC may lead to no other choice, than to resort to a court action to compel the setting up of the IMC.”  

He said the state of affairs of the Association did not auger well for the members of the media and he, therefore, associated himself with the call to avoid any further embarrassment, as well as public ridicule. 

He stated: “I associate myself with the previous call for the executives that you lead, to step aside for an Interim Management Committee to be in place to run affairs of the Association until a fresh election is held.”

Mr Nutor Bibini Nutor, a staff of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, is the Chief Petitioner for the ‘Concerned Members’.    

In their petition, the members said according to Article 15 (c) (i) of the Association’s constitution, ‘All National Executives shall hold office for a term of two years and shall be eligible for re-election’.

It, however, stated that: “The tenure of the executive should have ended on March 31, 2016.

“They flouted the constitution by extending it by a year because of a precedence that the Association’s elections were not supposed to be organised on a national election year.”

The recent election was scheduled for March 31, but it has been postponed indefinitely because of several petitions presented to the Election and Arbitration Committees
