GBA calls for more investigations on Delta Force

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has noted with disquiet the discharge of eight persons of the Delta Force group by a Kumasi Circuit Court on May 17 this year supposedly based on the advice of the Attorney General’s Department.

The GBA said it was disturbed by the turn of event and expressed the hope that the discharge of the said eight persons would not signify an end to the matter.

GBA in a statement issued in Accra and jointly signed by Mr Benson Nutsukpui, President of the GBA and Justine A. Amenuvor, Secretary of the Association noted that justice would not be served if the discharge of the accused persons ended the matter.

It therefore called on the Ghana Police Service to thoroughly investigate the matter in its entirety and interview court officials, lawyers and litigants who were in court on the day in order to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The GBA further reiterate its call in a statement issued on April 6, this year to ensure that all persons who played any role whatsoever in the attack on the court were arrested, duly charged and prosecuted.

According to GBA, “it was a threat to the rule of law if the impression was created that persons, who engaged in lawless acts, can escape the arm of the law.”
