Effutu Municipality receives chemicals to combat army worms
The Effutu Constituency has received eight boxes of insecticides as its share of the National consignment to manage and kill Army worms that are destroying farms in the area.
Mr Thomas Adjie Baffor, Central Regional Minister who made the presentation at the forecourt of the Assembly, advised the municipal agriculture personnel to use of the chemicals in order to combat the insects to benefit the farmers.
He commended the Assembly for taking the bold initiative to release funds to purchase some of the chemicals to start spraying farms ahead of government consignment of the insecticides.
“I hoped other assemblies will emulate the examples of Effutu Assembly to take initiatives to start addressing challenges before the government comes in to find a lasting solution,” he added.
Mr Hope Kumah Effutu, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, who received the items on behalf of the Assembly thanked the government for providing the chemicals.
He disclosed that maize farms at Ghahadze, Gyanganadze, Osubonpayin and Nsuakyere communities in the Municipality had been invaded by the insects and in all a total of 715 acre- maize farms had been destroyed.
Mr John B. Ninsin Effutu, the Municipal Chief Executive urged the farmers to co-operate with the Agricultural extension officers who were undertaking the spraying to ensure that the objectives by the government of providing the insecticides would be achieved.
