Court grants bail to foreigners engaged in galamsey
Four Russians including a Ukrainian arrested for indulging in illegal mining (galamsey) were on Wednesdaygranted bail at the sum of GH¢200,000 bail each by an Accra Circuit court.
The court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh asked that the sureties for the accused persons should be Ghanaians by birth, and also ordered the accused to deposit their passports to the Court’s registrar and report to the Police Criminal and Investigations Department every two weeks.
The case has been adjourned to July 11.
Counsel for the accused Emmanuel Darko, at the last adjourned date applied for bail for the accused since the charges before the court were ones that bail must not be denied.
The prosecution however opposed the application saying they were conducting further investigations and the court fixed today for its ruling on the bail application.
The court in granting the application noted that giving the circumstances of the case it was inclined to grant bail.
