Anas’s ‘Ghana in the eyes of God’ investigation nominated for Global Shining Light Awards
The most outstanding investigative journalism work in Ghana by Anas Aremeyaw Anas exposing corruption in the judiciary in Ghana has been nominated for the Global Shining Light Awards set for the first ever Global Investigative Journalism Conference to be held in Africa in November 2017.
The work by Anas which led to the sacking of some High Court judges found to be taking money and corrupting justice has been nominated together with 11 other investigative journalism works from around the world, the Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) announced today, July 19, 2017.
“12 extraordinary investigative projects from around the world are finalists in the seventh Global Shining Light Award, a prize that honors investigative journalism in developing or transitioning countries, done under threat, duress or under dire conditions,” the GIJN said.
According to the GIJN, the finalists were selected by an international panel of judges. The selection was from 211 projects, submitted by journalists in 67 countries.
“All the stories were published or broadcast between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2016, and are outstanding examples of journalists digging into wrongdoings and exposing systemic problems that impact their communities and countries and, often, the world,” it added.
The winners will be announced at the 2017 Global Investigative Journalism Conferencein Johannesburg, which runs from November 16-19, and will be presented with an honorary plaque and $2,000, it said.
