Prices of stationery and textbooks remain stable
A market survey conducted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday has revealed that some Bookshops in Accra have maintained the prices of stationery and textbooks, as prices remain the same from the last academic year.
In an interview with GNA, Mrs Mavis Effah Kyeremanteng, the Bookshop Manageress at the Presbyterian Book Depot in Accra, said the prices of notebooks ranges from GH¢5.00 to GH¢14.00 depending on the size.
According to Mrs Kyeremanteng, the Twi and English Hymn Books are pegged at GH¢16.00 and GH¢17.00 respectively, MS Calculators for GH¢50.00, ES Calculators for GH¢65.00 and ES Plus calculators for GH¢100.00.
The Advanced Oxford dictionaries with or without Compact Discs were being sold at GH¢57.00 (without CD) and GH¢60.00 (with CD).
Mr Frank Sokro, the Sales Executive at the Accra Central branch of Excellent Publishing and Printing (EPP) Books and Services told the GNA that books such as A Plus Mathematics, A Plus English, A Plus Social, A Plus Biology and the Aki-Ola Editions of past questions cost GH¢35.00, same as last year.
He said the Ghana Education Service recommended textbooks such as Excellent Biology, Excellent Chemistry, Excellent Integrated Science as well as Mastering Physics, were all priced at GH¢35.00 each, whilst the Mastering Social Studies is priced at GH¢28.00.
He said new students entering Senior High Schools were not purchasing textbooks for their electives mainly because they do not know their electives yet.
According to him, prices of all Senior High School textbooks on shelves at the EPP Books and Services are the same as last years’.
Mr Daniel Dgabang, a petty textbook vendor at Makola also confirmed to the GNA that the prices of stationary items has been stable since the last academic year of 2016.
Mr Dgabang deals in stationary items such as the Revised Standard Version Bible – GH¢20.00; Advanced Oxford Dictionaries – GH¢50.00; Hymn Books selling – GH¢25.00 and CASIO calculators – GH¢50.00.
