Mfantsiman Municipality to become industrial hub of Ghana – MCE
The Mfantsiman Municipal Assembly in the Central Region, plans to put in place pragmatic measures and business incentive Packages to attract and retain both local and foreign investors.
Mr Kenneth Kelly Essuman, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the move was in line with their resolve to make the municipality the most preferred investment destination and the biggest industrial hub in Ghana.
This is in preparation for the fulfillment of Government’s ‘One District, One Factory’ policy initiative to industrialise the country and move the nation’s productive economic capacities from consumption to production.
In line with this vision, he indicated that, preparations were far advanced for the establishment of more than five factories in the area to create employment for the youth.
Mr Essuman said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Mankessim, and gave the assurance that work will soon begin on the establishment of the factories in the area.
He hinted that though the assembly had planned to embark on five different projects, it intended to use the available land and other economically viable resources to transform the area.
Mr Essuman noted that the assembly was working in collaboration with some German investors to setup an ultra-modern solar energy centre at Abonko to generate more affordable cheap solar energy to serve as the engine for industrialisation and economic emancipation.
This, he underlined was geared towards providing reliable and affordable cheap energy supply to spark the desired energy mix to attract investors.
The MCE further stated that, the assembly had also discovered large quantities of salt deposit at Kuntu and Obidan to be explored and extracted.
He confirmed that negotiations were far advanced for the Chief and other interested parties to begin work adding that “There is ready market for it in Brazil and other countries”.
Additionally, the area will also benefit from the construction of the largest poultry farm in the country to prevent traders importing poultry and eggs from across the country to reduce trade in balances, create employment and to inculcate the habit of consuming local poultry for its nutritional needs
On boosting agriculture in the area, he stated that the Baafikrom Irrigation Project (BIP) would be revived to support the cultivation of rice to guarantee food security.
That notwithstanding, he charged the youth in the area to take a bold step by accepting farming as an alternative means of livelihoods to fully benefit from the Government’s planting for food and jobs programme.
To make good use of cassava and oil palm that go waste every year and rekindle the interest of the youth in agriculture, the MCE indicated that the assembly had also considered the establishment of gari and palm kennel processing factories.
He asked the chiefs and the traditional institutions to lend their support to the Government’s vision of industrialisation by offering litigation free-lands for the establishment of its one-district, one-factory project to the benefits of all.
