Ghana to host African Forum on Religion

Ghana will host the Fourth African Forum on Religion and Government (AFReG) conference from October 2 to 5, 2017, at Elmina in the Central Region.

The conference on the theme: “Africans Rising Together,” will focus on addressing the impact of the Slave Trade on Africans and Africans in the Diaspora.

The conference will bring together 300 leaders from Africa and the Diaspora to work together towards reconciliation and reconstruction for a better future for Africa and Africans.

Dr Delanyo Adadevoh, Chairman of AFReG announcing the forum in Accra at a press briefing explained that the theme, involves facilitating reconciliation as foundation for constructive engagement in strategic domains of society that promotes African development.

Dr Adadevoh noted that Africa cannot rise without engaging Africans in the Diaspora to address the division caused by the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.

“The lack of reconciliation and unity accounts for a spiritual crack in the foundation on which the new African dream is being built.

“The conference seeks to make significant contributions toward bridging the divisions of history and geography to strengthen Trans-Atlantic and trans-Saharan cooperation for the rise of all African peoples,” he added.

Dr Adadevoh said the conference was expected to address implications of slave trades on Africans in African and the Diaspora, reconcile the differences in perspectives on slave trades and promote relational reconciliation amongst Africans.

AFReG is an African Non-Governmental Organisation established in 2006 to help sensitise, educate and instil in Africans the foundation of a happy, progressive and prosperous society based on practice of sound moral, ethical and value-based principle.

Its mission is to facilitate the transformation of Africa into a premier continent based on God-centred values.

The first conference took place in Abuja, Nigeria in 2006 under the theme, “Religion and Government in Africa”.

The second conference was held in Limuru, Kenya in 2009 on the theme “The African Church in Mission and Transformation”, while the third conference took place in Lusaka, Zambia in 2013 with the theme, “Empowering Leadership for Transforming Africa”.
