Black Stars hit with injury woes ahead of Uganda clash

Things are not looking good for Ghana ahead of the all-important 2018 world cup qualifier against the Cranes of Uganda in Kampala.

The Black Stars are in a dire situation in Group E and will need a win to brighten their chances of making it to Russia next year. The team lies third in the group with five points and are four clear points of the pace of leaders Egypt with two matches to end the group.

A slip in the Uganda game will mean the Black Stars saying good bye to their attempt to make a fourth consecutive world cup appearance.

Meanwhile, the strength of the team has been weakened with several injury concerns. Seven members of Kwesi Appiah’s 26 squad have been ruled out due to injuries whilst playing for their respective clubs.

Most of the experienced players in the team will miss the action, including skipper Asamoah Gyan and deputy captain Harrison Afful.  Defender John Boye and Afriyie Acquah will also not play a part in this game due to injury.  

Jonathan Mensah and Thomas Agyepong have all been excluded from the team following injuries sustained over the weekend playing for club sides.

The latest addition to the injury list is speedster and Newcastle midfielder Christian Astu, who also got injured on Tuesday training with his club.

The team, which looks a bit inexperienced has nonetheless opened camp in Kenya with only 16 players turning up for the first training session at the Moi International Stadium in Kasarani.

Debutants Abass Mohammed and Patrick Twumasi are all expected to join the team on Wednesday at their camp whilst Richmond Boakye Yiadom, despite ill health will also join his colleagues.

The Black Stars will move to Uganda on Thursday evening and will train at the match venue a day before the game on Saturday afternoon.
