Capacity building course for Police officers ends at Winneba
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. David Asante-Appeatu has assured officers and men of the Service that the Police Administration will continue providing them with the necessary logistics, support and motivation to deliver quality service.
This was contained in his speech delivered by Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh-Yahunu, in charge of special duties, at the graduation ceremony of the Senior Command Course 5/2017 held at the Ghana Police Command and Staff College, Winneba.
The 34 Senior Police Officers, made of two- female and 32-males Superintendents, were drawn from the various Divisions, Units and the Headquarters for the course, bringing the total number of officers trained at the college to 658 since its inception in 2014.
The IGP urged the graduates to uphold and defend the core principles of the service at all times, saying that, the Police Administration is implementing a key policy to transform the service into a world class institution that is capable of carrying out its mandate.
According to him the transformation agenda would be anchored by the time tested core values of integrity, discipline, hard work, professionalism and the judicious use of discretion among others.
“I have no doubt, the training you have received would sharpen your thoughts as professional law enforcement officers and you must therefore let it reflect in the quality of leadership you provide in your job roles as Senior Commanders”.
Asante-Appeatu said the indiscretions of a few miscreants in the service would not be allowed to blight all the good efforts they are making to raise the image of the service and with regard the Police Administration is strengthening
Its Intelligence and Professional Standards, and the Inspectorate Units to investigate all reports and allegations of corruption, misuse of power and other aberrations that negate all they good works.
“You are therefore to brighten the corner where you are, remember, service to man is service to God and no sacrifice is too much if the rewards are fulfilling”, he stated.
He thanked the Inspector General of Nigeria Police for sending some of his officers over to share their experiences in the fight against Boko Haram and the German Agency for International Cooperation for sponsoring their trip, as well as all who contributed in diverse ways to make the training a success.
The Commandant of the College, COP Charles Tokor, said the participants were taken through topics such as Police Operational Strategies, Investigations, Emerging Security Issues and National Security Architecture, Management and the fight against terrorism, with special emphasis on the Nigeria police Force’s experience in fighting Boko Haram.
“It is my hope that the officers, having successfully completed the course, would properly utilize the knowledge and skills they have acquired to benefit the entire society, in order that the huge investment made on their training will not be a waist,” he added.
Superintendent Faustina Agyeiwaa Kodua Andoh-Kwofie, the Course Senior, on behalf of his colleagues expressed her appreciation to the IGP and the Police Administration for giving them the opportunity to be part of the capacity building course.
She said the knowledge and skills they have attained will go a long way to enhance their professionalism as Senior Professional Officers.
