Finance Ministry not doing much to access climate funding – MP
Mr Clement Humado, Member of Parliament for Anlo constituency, has said that the Ministry of Finance is not doing much as a signatory authority in funding of climate change projects.
According to him, although private people had proposals, they were not able to access funding citing for example carbon financing and called on the authorities in the Ministry to be up and doing.
Mr Humado who told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Bonn, Germany during the recent COP23 that the issue regarding the coastal development authority had to be examined seriously as it was an area that could provide Ghana with the necessary funding for adaptation and mitigation projects.
He said there was the need to belong to an accredited entity to be able to source funding and these accredited institutions had to be local institutions like research institutions such as university of Ghana or the Ministries who would be at the forefront to draw up programmes.
He said an inter-agency dialogue was needed to engage in discussions on the important national issues and observed that MESTI and Lands Ministry have some overlapping roles that was contradicting their activities.
He called for the engagement of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to have some partnership with them by including climate change programmes in their medium term plans.
