Bagbin is best for NDC in 2020 – Concerned Cadres

Alban Bagbin

The clamour for the leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2020 election by Mr Alban Bagbin continues to echo home with a group of foundational members of the party joining in the chorus.

Concerned Cadres (CC) have added to vibes from Constituency Executives of the party that the longstanding MP for Nadowli-Kaleo would be the NDC’s best foot forward into 2020.

“It is simple, Ghanaians are disappointed by Akufo-Addo, they have regretted because of the unprecedented corruption, nepotism and incompetence that the President is showing.

“Ghanaians want NDC back but they surely do not want somebody, who like Akufo-Addo, is similarly tainted with corruption. President Mahama was not really corrupt and incompetent as the NPP claimed, but unfortunately, that perception is still there. So NDC will be taking a greater risk with Mahama if we present him,” Fred Atsu Anthony, a member of the group said in an interview in Dawhenya.

His take was a summation of the point of view of the CC which says it is sure President Mahama could beat Akufo-Addo in 2020 but that his leadership would make the NDC’s chances 50 – 50 at best.

The CC believes that Akufo-Addo’s current performance would make him a total mismatch for Mr  Bagbin, who is a respected longstanding Parliamentarian without a single allegation of corruption attached to his name.

Already, Hon. Bagbin is enjoying encouragement and support from party executives of the NDC who mostly were sidelined during President Mahama’s first term between 2012 and 2016.

Last month, Hon. Bagbin received positive vibes from Constituency executives from Tema West, Tema East and Tema Central when he met  them to confer on the state of the party and sell himself as a Flagbearer hopeful.

Mr Bagbin has since also met executives of the Sege and Ada branches of the NDC and received a lot of support.

The Concerned Cadres’ approval of the Nadowli/Kaleo MP adds to the growing support base of the man who has been in Parliament since 1993.

Mr. Nelson Adu, a cadre in the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, raised criticisms against former President Mahama for the maltreatment of Ghanaian workers and advised the rank and file of the NDC to use whatever degree of firmness necessary to ensure that Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin wins massively at the forthcoming NDC Presidential primaries as he was in the good books of Nurses, Teachers and Ghanaians in general.
