Circuit Court remands four persons for robbery and dishonestly receiving
Three persons were on Monday remanded by an Accra Circuit Court for conspiring and robbing one Daniel Laryea, whilst a fourth accomplice was also remanded on a separate charge of dishonestly receiving.
Richmond Owusu Acheampong, Isaac Foster Bamfo, Yaw Amankwah were said to have conspired and robbed Daniel of a Techno Boom mobile phone worth GHȼ750.00, and a Samsung Galaxy S4 worth GHȼ800.00.
Kofi Ampomah on the other hand was said to have dishonestly received the one Samsung Galaxy S4 form Richmond.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges and the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh remanded them to reappear on March 9.
The prosecution led by Police Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu, told the court that, the complainant, is a network marketer and lives at Nungua whilst Richmond, Isaac, and Yaw are unemployed living at Kokomba market, while Kofi is a mobile phones trader at Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
He said on February 21, the Police received information about an attack on a passenger who alighted from a bus at Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
He said the Police patrol team was dispatched to the scene but the suspected robbers fled the scene before the Police got to the victim.
The prosecution said, some witnesses at the scene mentioned the name of Richmond to the Police Patrol Team as the leader of the three-man gang that have been robbing persons using the sidewalks between the Odaw gutter and the Circle roundabout underway.
Mr Adu said the Police sought the assistance of the workers at the nearby transport stations to arrest the suspects.
He said after the Police had left the scene, the three, came back to the same area around 0200 hours on February 22, armed with machete and hammers in an attempt to embark on another robbery spree.
He told the court that the witnesses in the case accosted Richmond and Isaac but Yaw managed to escape.
Prosecution said Richmond and Isaac were handed over to the Police at Kaneshie District where the previous robbery case was being investigated.
During interrogation, they admitted that they had in recent times indulged in the act of stealing from pedestrians at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and other parts of Accra.
They also admitted that on February 21, the two of them, together with Yaw were out to embark on a robbery act, when they were arrested.
Mr Adu told the court that, Yaw who escaped from the scene; was later arrested at the Komkomba market and handed over to the police.
The complainant, who was a victim of an earlier robbery involving the accused on February 19, was later called upon to identify a Techno mobile phone retrieved from Richmond.
He said Richmond later mentioned Kofi as the one who sold the Samsung Galaxy S4 mobile phone to him at the cost of GHȼ200.00 and led the Police, to the Kwame Nkrumah Circle where Kofi was arrested.
