Ghana Gas to shut down supply for 21 days
The Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) plans to shut down gas supply to the Aboadze power enclave for 21 days, starting May 28, 2018.
The shutdown is to allow for turret remediation works at the Floating Production and Storage Offshore (FPSO) Kwame Nkrumah, a combined statement issued by the Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) said on Tuesday.
“We wish to advise that this shutdown will not affect gas supply from the TEN field. There will therefore be only a minimal loss of some power generation from VRA plants at Aboadze and the Ameri plant”, the statement said.
It said “any loss in power generation from the west will be offset by generating additional power from the Tema area.”
It added: “we shall institute measures to the extent possible, to prevent any supply disruptions”
The statement explained that the remediation works to be done were “critical as they would significantly improve the amount of natural gas to run the power generating facilities at Aboadze and improve the overall reliablility of power supply to the country”
“We take this opportunity to assure electricity consumers and general public that the power situation will be managed in the most efficient manner during the period to address any challenges in power supply”, the statement concluded.
