Minister to tell how much had been spent on free SHS

The Education Minister is expected to appear before Parliament to explain how much had been spent on the government’s signature free senior high school (SHS) programme.

He would be in the House on next week Thursday, (June 14).

According to the business statement, presented to the House by Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, the Majority Chief Whip, the Member for Mion, Mohammed Abdul-Aziz, would be asking the Minister the total amount so far spent on the programme.

MPs from the minority side have expressed discomfort with what they say is the diversion of earmarked funds to finance the fee-free SHS.

The Minister would also be responding to a question from John Majisi, the Member for Krachi Nchumuru, on specific plans to ensure that the Ghana Inclusive Education Policy launched in 2015, is implemented.

The statement said officials of the National Identification Authority (NIA) would apprise the House on the roll-out plan for the Ghana Card (ID) on Tuesday, June 12.

On the same day, the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development and the Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund, would be on hand to update the MPs on the disbursement of the Common Fund.

The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) would be making a presentation on payment of money from the Fund, the next day, June 13.
