NCCE educates students on their civic responsibilities

Mr Nicholas Ofori Boateng, the Central Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE)has called for need for students to be appropriately educated on their civic responsibilities.

He maintained that constant education of students on their responsibilities would prompt them of the role that they could play to build a strong and vibrant democratic Ghana.

“Educating children on their civic responsibilities early in life will help them become good future leaders to live disciplined life that would promote economic growth”, he said.

Mr Ofori Boateng was addressing students of the University of Cape Coast Junior High School during the 2018 Citizenship Week Celebration in Cape Coast.

The event, which was organised by the NCCE in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) was on the theme; “Our Taxes Build a Great Ghana”.

The NCCE Citizenship Week Celebration is one of the activities undertaken nationwide for basic schools to commemorate the country’s return to constitutional rule.

On the benefit of the celebration, Mr Ofori Boateng said it was to encourage the pupils to join the awareness raising campaign on tax compliance.

This, he  said fell in line with the NCCE’s policy of “catching them young” adding that, it was a strategy for the youth to imbibe good citizenship and contribute to nation building.

“The celebration will also focus on changing attitudes through children on the spirit of patriotism and heighten public awareness of importance and benefit of paying taxes to raise more revenue for the nation’s development”, he said.

Mr Ofori Boateng noted that the youth had a crucial role to play in the nation’s development, hence, the need to build a sense of patriotism in them.

He believed a well trained youth will be disciplined and law abiding and will help build a strong nation for the society.

“The actions and inactions of the youth will reflect the tomorrow society. To live a disciplined life and shun indiscipline in all aspects of life is a clear manifestation of youth with quality mind and thought”, he added.
