Tipper truck kills pregnant woman and injures two
A Tipper truck on Thursday afternoon fell on a pregnant woman to kill her and her unborn baby instantly at Chiraa in the Sunyani West District.
Two other victims, Madam Akua Denkyiwaa, aged 55 and Richmond Mohammed, a five year old boy who were injured are on admission at the Sunyani Regional Hospital, responding to treatment whilst the body of the pregnant woman and the premature baby have been deposited at the Hospital’s Mortuary, pending autopsy.
The vehicle with registration number GW3951-14, driven by one Issifu Tahiru with Ali Fatawu and Benjamin Yiadom on board was from Techiman towards Sunyani, Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer confirmed to the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani.
He said at the point of the accident at about 1330 hours on June 14 at Chiraa, the tipper truck developed a mechanical fault and fell on its side to hit the pregnant woman who was selling by the road side and killed her instantly.
The foetus was also forced out, Chief Inspector Oppong said and added that the vehicle had been towed to the Chiraa Police Station, while the driver had been arrested to assist the Police in an investigation.
