Government to recruit 8,000 more teachers
Government is to recruit 8,000 teachers this year to enhance the teaching workforce at senior high schools across the country.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who announced this during his 3-day working visit to the Volta region said the decision was to make teachers available for the 180,000 students to be enrolled under the Free Senior High school programme this year.
The President said education remained a top priority for government and said infrastructural facilities would be expanded in the schools to accommodate the increasing numbers.
“We need to educate our people into willful citizens in order to advance the cause of our country”, he stated.
The President later commissioned a hostel built for the Keta Nurses Training School, christened, Major Rtd. Courage Quashigah Hostel, in honour of the late Minister for Health, Courage Quashigah who initiated the project.
The facility, estimated at GH¢500,000.00 was started in 2007 but later abandoned, and completed this year with government funding.
The President promised to give a bus to the School.
