53 PWDs in Bosome Freho receive support

The Bosome Freho District Assembly in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development (SWCD) has presented assorted items and start up tools to 53 Persons With Disability (PWDs) in the district.

The items worth GH¢60,000.00 include sewing machines, bags of cement, iron sheets, carpentry tools, shoe making tools, bags of rice and sugar, deep freezers, cocoa spraying machines, wheel chairs and hair dryers.

Funds from the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF) allocated for the PWDs was used for the procurement of the items.

Mr. Yaw Danso, the District Chief Executive (DCE), at a ceremony to hand over the items to the beneficiaries, said the move was to empower them to be economically viable.

They must therefore desist from selling the item and rather put them to good use to make them self-reliant and independent from the benevolence of society.

He said the assembly would put a monitoring mechanism in place that would follow the progress of beneficiaries to ensure the objectives of the exercise was achieved.

Government, he noted, would continue to pursue policies that would provide a level playing field for every citizen to thrive, adding that, no one would be discriminated against.

He encouraged PWDs in the district to take advantage of the various skills training workshops being rolled out by the Business Advisory Centre (BAC), under the Rural Enterprises Project (REP) to learn trade.

Mr. Effah Konadu, the District Director of Social Welfare said more PWDs in the district would benefit as and when funds were available and urged those who are yet to receive their share to remain calm.
