Black Stars to play Kotoko after cancellation of Sierra Leone clash
The senior national team, the Black Stars , will engage Ghana Premier League (GPL) giants, Asante Kotoko on Friday, October 12, after the cancellation of their double header of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sierra Leone.
The decision to play Asante Kotoko in a friendly, comes about after the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) on Tuesday, informed Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Normalization Committee about the cancellation of the double header after Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) and Sierra Leone governmental authorities, failed to meet the conditions of Football’s World governing body, FIFA, to revert their earlier suspension over government interference.
In a letter signed by Samson Adamu, Director of Competition at CAF said, “the CAN 2019 Qualifier match no. 65 (Ghana vs Sierra Leone) & 89 (Sierra Leone vs Ghana) on the 11th and 14th of October respectively have been cancelled.”
“Due to the fact that the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), did not meet the conditions stipulated in the letter sent by CAF on FIFA’s decision to suspend the federation.
“As a result, all officials appointed for match no 89 (Sierra Leone vs Ghana) are not to travel as their mission has been canceled, likewise, the officials who have traveled for Match no 65 (Ghana vs Sierra Leone) are requested to travel back home since the match has been cancelled.”
Meanwhile, the Black Stars – Kotoko friendly slated for Baba Yara Sports Stadium would be free of charge and kick starts at 16:00 GMT.
