Cocoa farmers at Anomawobi get associations
Cocoa farmers at Anomawobi in the Edubiase District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana have inaugurated four Associations to help to educate their colleagues on good farming practices.
The groups are; Nkabom Kuo, Biakoye Kuo, Adom Mmoa Kuo and Eyi Daso Kuo constituting 30 members each.
Mrs Christiana Amponsah, Edubiase District Cocoa Officer of the COCOBOD, who inaugurated the groups and their leaders said 2019’s activities should be concentrated on pruning, pollination, mass spraying and cocoa rehabilitation.
Mrs Amponsah said, every farmer was to harvest about 15-18 bags from every acres and advised that, the cocoa trees that exceeded their lifespan should be cut down.
She appealed to other farmers who had their personal spraying machines to make them available to facilitate the work.
Mr Hamza Mohammed, an Extension Officer from the Survey Department said the farmers ought to carry out their duties of searching for the cocoa swollen shoot virus adding that the virus had its symptoms as swollen coupons, brown spots on leaves, die back and Mistotle.
Mr Emmanuel Kolboni, Extension Officer used the gathering to hammer on child labour saying that, parents especially farmers should desist from the practice of using their children during school days and hours.
He said the children should be made to work at the weekends with lighter schedules
