Gomoa Central Assembly to demolish illegal structures
The Gomoa Central Assembly has said, it will embark on a demolition exercise to clear all illegal structures to give way for the implementation of a master plan for the district.
Mr Benjamin Kojo Otoo, the Gomoa Central District Chief Executive (DCE), disclosed this when he addressed a durbar of chiefs and people of Gomoa Akropong No2 in the Central Region to climax their annual Akwambo Festival.
The festival was on the theme: “Community Development through Festival and Culture.”
Mr Otoo said the implementation of the master plan will help create space for the building of well-planned structures to assist the Assembly to improve on its internally generated funds to undertake development projects.
He ordered all those putting up illegal structures in the area to stop in order to avoid any trouble since the Assembly will not hesitate to prosecute any offender.
The DCE asked heads of clans and chiefs to avoid selling reserve lands. Mr Otoo said last year the Assembly embarked on a massive public education to sensitize land owners and chiefs to refrain from illegal structures to prevent any disaster.
“2019 is an action year and the Assembly would not leave any stone unturned to ensure that illegal structures are not entertained in the Gomoa Central District,” he declared.
Mr Otoo said under the Planting for Food and Jobs programme, the Assembly has nursed 50,000 coconut seedlings to be distributed to farmers for free to earn foreign exchange to reduce poverty in the district.
He called on the farmers, especially the youth to register under the programme to benefit from the seedlings, technical and financial support from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to enhance their living standard.
Mr Otoo expressed worry about the kind of indecent dressing by ladies during the climax of the festival, which could promote promiscuity among the youth and urged the chiefs and opinion leaders of the area to stop the practice.
He urged parents to take advantage of the Free Senior High School programme by the government to enroll their daughters in school.
Naana Eyiah Quansah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, advised parents to prioritize their children’s education because it is the panacea to break the poverty circle.
He assured the people of Gomoa Akropong No2 that the government would improve roads in the area, construct classroom blocks and provide other projects to improve their living conditions.
Nana Oddom Amanfo, the chief of Gomoa Akropong No2, commended the MP for her support to the communities in the constituency and assured them that the people would continue to rally behind the government to accomplish its visions.
He lauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for rolling out policies and programmes such as the Planting for Food and Jobs, NaBCO, among others, to create job opportunities for the people, particularly the youth.
