Ethiopian Airlines, others ground Boeing 737-8 Max fleet
Ethiopian Airlines has grounded all of its Boeing 737-8 Max fleet following the tragic accident of Sunday, March 10, 2019 involving one the Boeing 787-8 Max aircraft. The flight number ET-AVJ crashed six minutes after take-off on a scheduled flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi, killing all 149 passengers and eight crew members on board.
Dozens of airlines across the world have also grounded all of their Boeing 737-8 Max fleet following the accident.
In a press release copied to ghanabusinessnews.com, the Airlines said following the accident on Sunday, it has decided to ground all Boeing 737-8 Max fleet effective that day until further notice.
“Although we don’t yet know the cause of the accident, we had to decide to ground the particular fleet as extra safety precaution,” the release said.
Ethiopian Airlines received its brand new Boeing 737-8 Max fleet in July 2018. The Airlines which is a member of Star Alliance, has an impeccable record of safety. Being the largest and most profitable airline in Africa, Ethiopian has been expanding its services around the world.
