Operation Vanguard team arrests two illegal miners

Two suspected illegal miners have been arrested by the Operation Vanguard team within the Wassa Akropong Municipality and Amenfi East District in the Western Region and seized several mining equipment from them.

A statement signed by Captain Andy Sowatey, Public Relations Officer of the team and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday said the suspects were arrested at the weekend.

The statement said one of the suspects, a Chinese has been handed over to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) Task Force and the Ghanaian, to the Akropong District Police.

The statement said two excavators seized on site were also handed over to the IMCIM Task Force.
