NCCE engages PWDs, religious groups on corruption
The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Krachi East Municipality has intensified campaign against corruption in engagements with churches, identifiable groups and Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs).
The Municipal-wide exercise, is under the second phase of the European Union funded Accountability Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (ARAP), which aims at reducing corruption, promoting good governance, and improving accountability and compliance with Rule of Law.
The NCCE engaged members of the Presbyterian Church, Pentecost Church-Lakeside, and E.C.G Church all in Dambai as well as savings groups in Kpelema, Kparekpare, Nwane, Anyabor No.1 and Banka, on corruption and its various forms.
The sensitization also delved on its daunting effect on the development of the nation, and equipped participants with knowledge on the various institutions mandated to fight corruption as well as the art of whistleblowing as an effective tool.
Mr. Clement Kwesi Mamadu, Krachi East Municipal Director of the Commission said corruption, either alleged or proven, continued to bedevilled the fortunes and economic progress of the country and commended European Union for their assistance extended to the Commission to empower citizens eschew the canker.
He said corruption manifested itself in the form of bribery, embezzlement, tax evasion and avoidance and littering among others, with its effects driving marginalized groups in particular into desolation.
Mr Mamadu called on citizens to help to enforce the provision of article 41 (f) of the Constitution, which states: “To protect and preserve public property and expose and combat misuse and waste of public funds and property”.
He encouraged participants to report any suspected act of corruption to offices of Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Police, Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), the Special Prosecutors Office, BNI, as well as the public complaints departments of the NCCE.
