Reverend Ministers must show high sense of integrity – Rev. Adu-Gyamfi

Reverend Dr Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, Executive President of the Ghana Baptist Convention (GBC) has asked ministers of the gospel to desist from acts that seek to compromise the purpose of their call.

As religious leaders, they should refrain from engaging in fraudulent acts that could question honesty and uprightness in society.

Addressing the 2019 annual convention of the GBC at Ejura, Rev. Adu-Gyamfi questioned the honesty of some religious leaders and other persons in executing their roles of endorsing official documents like passports.

He said the ability of non-Ghanaians to have access to Ghanaian passports is a source of worry to many people and therefore charged religious leaders authorized to endorse official documents to be honest and desist from endorsing for people who do not qualify, for monetary gains.

This year’s convention was on the theme “The Spiritual Growth of the Minister; Attitude and Aptitude”

The planned implementation of the Representation of the People Amendment Act (ROPAA) by the Electoral Commission raised many concerns among Ghanaians of the likelihood of foreigners who hold Ghanaian passports getting involved in the elections.

Hundreds of non-Ghanaians living outside the country are said to have acquired Ghanaian passports through fraudulent means.

Rev. Adu-Gyamfi, who is a Member of the ROPAA Implementation Committee, stressed the need for great circumspection in the guarantor functions of passports to help protect the Ghanaian interest.

On curbing political vigilantism, Rev. Dr. Adu-Gyamfi stressed the need to expand the discussions to explore areas of employment for members of the disbanded vigilante groups to live normal lives.

“How do we engage these young men and women in a positive manner to ensure that they have something gainful to do that feeds them and can help them to come out of this situation”?.
