Western Region to replant five million coconut trees
The Western Region of Ghana is set to benefits from a massive replanting of coconut trees towards boosting the local economy with the tendency to position the Region as a hub for coconut production.
The Region is joining forces with Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria to replant a total of five million coconut trees.
The replanting campaign, according to the Western Regional Minister,
Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, and Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom,
Mr Uboh Emmanuel would be launched by the end of May this year.
This was made known by the two dignitaries when they took turns to address the congregation at the 2019 City Wide Thanksgiving Service instituted by Bishop Ogyiri Asare’s Zion Praise Chapel.
Akwa Ibom State in Nigeria has planted over 110 hectares of coconut and is in the process of building the largest coconut processing factory on the entire continent.
Coconut plays a major role in the economic growth, household income and nutrition, and various common household products.
It is insightful to know that the Western Regional Agricultural Office states that truck load of coconut leave the major coconut zone of Jomoro, Ellembelle and Nzema East on daily basis.
