Sunyani Central Prisons appeals for drugs  

The Sunyani Central Prisons’ Chaplain, Deputy Superintendent of Prisons (DSP) Reverend Gideon Ndebugri has appealed for drugs to stock the Prison’s Infirmary to cater for sick inmates.

Currently, he said the Infirmary has no drugs, not even common drugs like paracetamol and other pain killers to provide first aid for emergency cases.

DSP Rev. Ndebugri made the appeal when the Adventist Men’s Ministry of the Penkwase Seventh Day Adventist Church in the Sunyani Municipality presented drugs worth GH₵3,000.00 to stock the Infirmary last Saturday.

The drugs comprised ATC’s, diclofenac, mebendazole, Oral Rehydration Salt (ORS), benzyl benzoate, methylated spirit, drez solutions, flagyl and paracetamol.

The presentation followed an earlier medical screening exercise the fellowship in collaboration with the SDA Hospital in Sunyani organised for the inmates and the Prisons officers in March this year.

DSP Rev Ndebugri thanked the donors and described the gesture as a great relief to the Prison authorities who had to sometimes use their personal monies to buy drugs for sick inmates.

Evangelist Nana Gordon Nyamekye, the Leader of the Men’s Ministry said God placed enormous responsibility on the church to support the vulnerable and needy in the society.

He indicated that the Prisons existed “to correct not to breed hardened criminals” and called on the general public to help integrate convicts into the society, after they had served their sentences.
