Sonographer granted bail over fraud

Sonographer who defrauded more than 30 nurse trainees in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District under the pretext of securing them employment in the Ghana Health Service (GHS), has been granted a GH¢ 100,000.00 bail, with four sureties by the Nkawie Circuit Court.

Prosper Atiase, who introduced himself to his victims as a technical officer at the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), is said to have succeeded in collecting a total of GH¢ 76,500.00 from his victims, who were nurse trainees from Agogo and Mim, in the Atwima-Kwanwoma district.

He pleaded not guilty to charges of defrauding by false pretenses and forgery of documents and will reappear before the court presided over by Mr Michael Johnson Abbey, on August 09, this year.

Detective Inspector Anthony Acheampong told the court that, the accused was a resident of Tikrom, near Ejisu, while the complainants were Miss Georgina Arthur and 30 other nurse trainees.

He said in November last year, the accused introduced himself as an employee of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly and a technical officer of CHAG and would be able to secure employment for them in CHAG and with the Ghana Health Service.

Inspector Acheampong said the accused managed to collect a total of GH¢ 76, 500.00 from his victims and issued appointment letters purported to have come from CHAG, GHS and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department.

He said however, when the victims cross checked from the Ashanti Regional offices of the institutions they detected that the letters were fake.

The Prosecution said they then made a report to the Suntreso Police, who arrested the accused and after investigations, he was charged and brought before the court.
